[edit] Create a folder

To start a New project you must first initiate the process by creating and saving Folders and files.

This folder is where ALL your data and files must be stored. This should be created in your media folder in which ever device you choose to use. For example we create a folder called dtvtest on the USB drive DTV (filesytem/media/DTV/dtvtest)

We recommend creating a folder on an external hard drive or removable storage device for increased portability.

[edit] Download Clips

Download your clips from http://edit.deptford.tv (or to your video server) to your created folder.

[edit] Import Clips

  • Open Cinelerra
  • To import / open files go to File: Load Media...
  • In the window select your video files from your folder (filesytem/media/DTV/dtvtest) and click the Insertion Strategy button which gives you several options.
  • Choose Create New Resources only. This places the video files in your Media Folder in Cinelerra. The importance of this is to allow you to reference the Media files through the editing process, create new Clips with comments.
  • The clips will then appear in the Media folder and are ready for editing.

[edit] Edit Project

For full video editing tutorials please refer to http://cinelerra.org/docs.php

For best practise in the collaborative process it is advisable to create new annotated clips out of your media files. This will create comments in the xml and will appear in the Storyboard for all other editors to see.

To create a new clip:

  1. Double click on a video file in the Media folder. this will appear in the Viewer window.
  2. In this window you can place in and out points for the clip that define the start and end points of your new clip.
  3. Click the To Clips button which raises a new window
  4. Give the clip a Name and annotate what happens in the clip in the Comments window. Then save.
  5. The clip will now appear in the Clips folder and can be used in the timeline as per the editing process.

[edit] Save Project

We save the project as an .xml file in our folder (filesytem/media/DTV/dtvtest). This saves all the project data and the references to video files, clips and other media.

[edit] Update Server

Once the the files have been saved you MUST update the server.

  1. Via the web form at http://edit.deptford.tv/.
  2. Click Upload xml file
  3. Find .xml file from your folder and click Update
