Principles
From Deptford.TV
The DTV Toolkit works by using several key principles
- High quality video source files are uploaded and stored on the server
- A compressed (OGV)version of the video files are used to downloading and edit on local computers
- xml files are used to record editing data and syncronise projects
- The xml files reference unique file names
- integrity is checked for at all stages, eg. for a project xml file to be uploaded, all assets required must first exist on the system, and the file paths must be listed such that the project file may be launched on another persons machine.
For this process to work smoothly it is important that
- No filenames are altered
- All asset files must be in one directory on the local computers of the project participants who upload project files
