Introduction


The DTV toolkit is a collection of online and offline tools and processes that together enable the sharing and archiving of video, audio and image assets, and collaborative editing of that material. It assumes a group of people who have established shared aims and objectives, probably by attending meetings or workshops.

The diagram below shows the whole workflow. Green nodes in the graph show offline processes, blue nodes are online processes (handled via a customised installation of the cms Drupal with some other addons). Pink nodes are processes that bridge between online and offline tools.



General Workflow

  1. DIGITISE Using Kino or another capturing software. Or copy files from SD card cameras. All the original files should be brought to http://dek.spc.org for archiving.
  2. RENAME FILE Using the filemanager. NAMING CONVENTION date_project_clipnumber.container (example 090518_CCTV_01.avi), please date always YEARmonthDAY and no spaces in the filename
  3. TRANSCODE the clips for .mp4 files with ffmpeg see settings here (or with Avidemux), for .ogv use ffmpeg2theora (settings ffmpeg2theora -x 360 -y 240 -K 25 "original filename")
  4. UPLOAD CLIPS TO SERVER Upload to http://edit.deptford.tv - use fireftp with your username & pass given by the administrator.
  5. LOG CLIPS on your user account on http://edit.deptford.tv, see tagging convention
  6. EDIT PROJECT Using Cinelerra. Tutorials here http://cinelerra.org/docs.php
  7. SAVE PROJECT Save to your project folder. settings here
  8. UPDATE VERSIONING SYSTEM Update the xml file to the server (over your user account on http://edit.deptford.tv).


There are 2 distinct types processes for the DTV Toolkit:

  2. Working with Established Projects
